When buying dried American Oak in Vietnam, customers often have doubts about the quality and classification of wood. The measurement and classification will be based on the standards of the American Hardwood Association in the following form:

1. CLASSIFICATION:
+ FAS (First and Select):
- The recovery rate of wood without defects accounts for 83% of the surface area.
- The minimum size of the recovery part is at least 150mm wide and 2.4m long.
+ 1 COMMON ( 1COM ):
- The rate of recovery of wood without defects accounts for 66% of the surface area.
- The minimum size of the recovery part is at least 100mm wide and 1.2m long.
+ 2 COMMONs ( 2COM ):
- The rate of recovery of wood without defects accounts for 50% of the surface area.
- The minimum size of the recovery part is at least 100mm wide and 1.2m long.
+ 3 COMMONs ( 3COM ):
- The recovery rate of wood without defects accounts for 30% - 49% of the surface area.
2. MEASUREMENT WAY:
+ Thickness:
- Accurately measure the actual thickness of the wood, excluding crushed ink.
Wood thickness is measured at the thinnest point of the bar.
- Measure 2 digits. Example: 15mm ; 20mm ; 22mm ; 26mm ; 32mm ; 40mm ; 50mm
White Oak Lumber 50mm
 + Wide side:
- The wide side of the wood is measured right in the middle of the wooden bar to avoid the case that the wood has a big head and a small head
- Wood width is measured according to the following principles:
• Thin wood (from 32mm or less): measure 2 numbers. Rounding according to the principle: below 5 down, from 5 up plus 1.
Ex: 151-154mm => 150mm ; 155-159mm => 160mm
• Thick wood (over 32mm): measure 2 numbers. Rounding according to the principle: below 5 lower; 5 stays the same, and 5 and up adds 1
Ex: 151-154 => 150mm ; 155mm stays the same; 156-159mm => 160mm
3. LENGTH:
- Thin wood (32mm or less): measure 2 numbers. Rounding according to the principle: below 9 down; 5 stays the same, and 5 and up adds 1.
Ex: 1m81-1m84 => 1m8 ; 1m85 remains the same; 1m86-1m89 => 1m9
